Frequently Asked Questions
What is yoga? Yoga is many things to many people. It is often viewed as two totally different ends of the spectrum. We think we’ll only sit around stretching and meditating or we think we’ll be pushing our bodies to the maximum, leaving every drop of sweat on the floor. The reality lies somewhere in between. I like the way Kelly McGonigal reminds us “the aim of traditional yoga is to restore health of body and peace of mind.” Health of body and peace of mind are unique for each being. (Therein lies the benefits of both group and individual classes.)
Who is yoga for? Yoga is for everybody. However, not every yoga is for every body. A skilled teacher can help you navigate to the types of yoga that will help you meet your goals.
Is yoga a religion? My immediate answer to this question is always “No.”. However, many people find a deeper connection to their higher power through yoga, while others just find it to be a great way to get physically fit. Really, you, as the practitioner, get to decide.
I’m not flexible. Can I do yoga? Yes! You do not have to be able to play a violin before you learn to play a violin. Yoga can ease you into flexibility one practice at a time.

I’m not as young as I used to be. Can I do yoga? Yes! As we age, we absolutely need yoga to maintain our strength and suppleness.
I’m a guy. Can I do yoga? Absolutely! The ancient yogis were, in fact, mostly men.
What should I wear for yoga class? Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move and maintain modesty. There is no need for special brands or fabrics but you may wish to choose clothing that doesn’t ride up or down with twists and bends.
Do I have to wear spandex? Yes, lime green, please. Just kidding! No spandex required.
What styles of yoga do you teach? I have studied yoga extensively for many years. Thus I have experienced and trained to teach many styles. These styles include Hatha, vinyasa, Viniyoga, yin, hot yoga, power yoga and stand up paddle board yoga. If you’re newer to yoga, that might just all sound like alphabet soup. Wherever you are are in your journey, I’m happy chat about your your goals for your one of a kind body and mind, and the types of yoga that might serve you best.
How do I know if yoga is right for me? Let’s have a conversation and give a class or two a try.
Are there any contraindications to practicing yoga? Certain types of yoga or certain yoga postures may be contraindicated based on certain medical conditions. A well-qualified teacher can help you sort through what would work best for you.
Where are you located? Knoxville, TN and online
What does yoga cost? Yoga costs vary depending on the type of class and your goals. Public and online classes tend to cost less. However, depending on individual preferences and goals, private sessions might provide the biggest bang for your buck, even with a higher price point.
How often should I do yoga? As you begin your practice, 2 to 3 times a week will bring true benefits. The longer you practice, you may choose to add more days. Many long time practitioners find their way to their mat everyday.
Do you offer private or semi-private yoga sessions? Yes! I love to teach in a private or small group setting.
